Celebrating Shoreline Trainee Shannin

In 2017, Shannin was struggling with school and becoming disengaged at her local high school. She found out about the SchoolTech program and enrolled in Yr 12, 2018.

This was the first year of Shoreline in Cairns and Shannin was signed as a Trainee with Deep Sea Divers’ Den.

By the end of Yr 12, she was recognised as Marine Student of the Year, wining $1000, kindly donated by Cairns Navy League, an annual award. She was also a finalist at Skill360 Australia Awards, being nominated for Trainee of the Year.

During that year, Minister for Small Business, Shannon Fentimen was invited to Cairns by the local member and was given a tour of the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC) by Shannin Bolton. The Minister was very impressed with young Shannin’s knowledge, enthusiasm and love of country.
