US Fishing Trip

Former Tiwi junior guide, now Shoreline mentor Anthony Lorenzo recently toured the US. Anthony received the Shimano Scholarship for 2019 which has enabled him to embark on this journey.

The three week trip for Anthony included Orlando, Vancouver and Alaska. In Orlando Anthony visited ICAST with Shimano Australia CEO Col Tannahill. ICAST is the world’s largest sport fishing trade show, showcasing the latest innovations in fishing gear, accessories and apparel. It was a fantastic opportunity for Anthony to broaden his horizons as he continues to grow as a fishing guide and a leader in the Tiwi Islands.

Shimano had also organised a day guided fishing in the Mexican Gulf for Tarpon. Anthony was lucky enough to land one of these monsters, its approximate weight was 130lb, he was one happy angler!

From Orlando Anthony then visited Vancouver. Shimano had also organised another guided fishing trip for sturgeon on the Fraser River. Anthony managed to catch a sturgeon which was 250lb and 7.5 feet long. It was an extremely impressive fish and the largest Anthony’s ever caught.

The final leg of the trip was in a small community called King Salmon in Alaska. The target species were rainbow trout, dolly varden, grayling, chum salmon and king salmon. It was an awesome experience with some fantastic fishing and scenery including close up encounters with bears. Anthony topped of the trip on the final day with a 22lb king salmon.
